General Guidelines
HIKA features a variety of literary forms and visual mediums. We most often solicit submissions of prose, poetry, and visual art. More broadly, we welcome the innovative, fantastic, and eye-catching.
Additionally, in the past, HIKA has published musical compositions, translations, essays, a speech or two, paintings, etchings, prints, drawings, collage, and photography. Surprise us!
Submission evaluation is anonymous and usually takes place within two weeks. Authors or artists are welcome to sit in on meetings (Wednesdays at 8:30pm in Cheever). We will email promptly regarding our decision, and pieces that are not accepted will receive constructive criticism.
All submissions should be submitted directly through our form. We prefer Google Docs (remember to change sharing permissions) for most written work and PDF if the piece has unique formatting.
Prose
25 page limit for publication on website, 10 page limit for print publication. Nonfiction and fiction are welcome in all styles and themes. We will copyedit accepted work.
Poetry
5 page limit. We accept all kinds of poetry, including poems that push form and genre.
Art
Artist’s preferred format, 300+ resolution. All forms of visual art are welcome. If accepted, artists will have the option to submit a higher-quality image.
Other
If you can upload it, we’ll consider it! Please email us (hika@kenyon.edu) with any non-traditional submissions in whatever format makes the most sense.
